Sri Lanka, Feb. 1 -- The Kalutara Crimes Division has arrested an associate of the suspected Southern Province organised crime leader and drug trafficker known as 'Unakooruwe Shantha'.
The 22-year-old suspect, a resident of Gintota, was apprehended near the Aluthgama railway station with approximately 500 grams of the synthetic drug 'Ice'.
Police officials have estimated the street value of the seized narcotics to be nearly five million rupees.
The arrest followed a targeted investigation by the Kalutara Crimes Division into reports that followers of Unakuruwe Shantha were operating a drug distribution network across the Aluthgama and Welipenna areas.
