Sri Lanka, Oct. 15 -- The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) reports the arrest of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) from the Police Headquarters' Recruit Division.

The arrested officer is the ASP (Administration) of that division.

The ASP was arrested by the CID's Special Investigations Unit No. 1 for allegedly submitting a fraudulent application and a falsified payment receipt to the National Police Commission for the 2007 Assistant Superintendent of Police examination.

The suspect ASP was arrested at his residence in Thorayaya, Kurunegala.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the courts. The CID's Special Investigations Unit No. 1 is conducting further investigations.
