Sri Lanka, March 1 -- The Army has rescued 35 people who were trapped in the Hirikatu Oya due to a sudden rise in water levels this afternoon (01).
The rescue operation was carried out by Disaster Relief Services troops from the Nanperiyal Camp of the Gemunu Watch.
A group of 75 local tourists from Kolonnawa had been on a tour of the Nanperiyal area when the water levels began to rise.
The Army stated that their quick response ensured the safe rescue of the civilians before the situation worsened.
