Sri Lanka, Jan. 23 -- A 39-year-old resident of Kebithigollewa who deserted the Army faced arrest for allegedly defrauding elderly citizens at ATMs. Kalutara South Police reported the apprehension of the suspect following multiple complaints.
The suspect operated by pretending to assist elderly individuals struggling with ATM transactions to obtain their PIN numbers. He then secretly swapped their bank cards with similar cards in his possession, claiming the machine was faulty, to send the victims away before withdrawing their money. Numerous complaints regarding these activities reached police stations in Kalutara South, Wadduwa, and Bandaragama.
