Sri Lanka, May 3 -- An investigation headed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police has been opened pertaining to the death of a man in the custody of the Kosgoda Police.
The 28-year-old was arrested by the Kosgoda police the day before yesterday, following a complaint made by his own parents.
It was reported that the man, who was addicted to drugs, fell ill while in custody and died after being admitted to the Balapitiya Base Hospital.
Upon inquiry, the Kosgoda Police stated that the young man lost consciousness while inside a cell.
However, the victim's family members allege that the youth's death was the result of police brutality and are demanding an investigation.
