Sri Lanka, Aug. 25 -- Former Foreign Minister and President's Counsel Ali Sabry has called the allegations against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe a "political vendetta."

Sabry argued that a sitting president's security and travel expenses, whether for official or personal reasons, are a matter of state protocol and not a misuse of public funds.

He pointed out that this applies to the current president as well, questioning how he traveled during his election campaign and whether he was protected by state security.

He dismissed the Rs. 16.6 million allegation, which police claim was spent on a London transit, as "a fabricated case."
