Sri Lanka, Jan. 17 -- A traveller was arrested at Katunayake Airport for attempting to smuggle illegal foreign cigarettes and e-cigarettes valued at Rs. 6,885,000.
The Customs Department noted that officers made the arrest this evening following the suspect's arrival.
The 23-year-old suspect, identified as a resident of Panadura, reportedly works as an air ticket salesperson.
He arrived from Dubai at 5:00 PM on Emirates flight EK 654. Customs officials grew suspicious when he tried to bypass the 'Green Channel' and subsequently discovered the contraband hidden inside three suitcases.
This search revealed 44,400 foreign cigarettes across 222 cartons and 15 e-cigarettes, all of which remain in customs custody for further legal action....
