Sri Lanka, April 2 -- The Department of Wildlife Conservation has initiated an action plan to minimize train collisions with wild elephants, with support from the Ministry of Environment, the Department of Railways, the Department of Forest Conservation, and the Central Environmental Authority.

Seven hilly areas between Galoya and Hingurakgoda railway stations have been identified as high-risk zones, and steps will be taken to remove mud from these locations. Train drivers, stationmasters, engineers, and assistant drivers will be informed, while signboards marking elephant crossings will be updated.
