Sri Lanka, Sept. 8 -- According to D.R. Alahakoon, the secretary of the Lanka Egg Producers' Association, an egg shortage could occur in the future due to the rising cost of animal feed on one hand and the falling price of eggs on the other.

He further stated that if the government fails to establish a connection between the price of animal feed and the price of eggs, there's a risk that egg farmers will stop producing eggs.

The Lanka Egg Producers' Association has emphasized that egg farmers are currently facing significant difficulties and that a proper regulatory mechanism is needed to maintain egg prices in a way that is fair to the farmer, the merchant, and the consumer.
