Sri Lanka, Feb. 6 -- The Sri Lanka Respiratory Society states that air pollution causes the deaths of 7 million people worldwide each year.

Specialist Dr. Neranjan Dissanayake, the society's chairman, made this statement while speaking at a workshop held at the Health Education Bureau yesterday.

He also highlighted that air pollution is not limited to outdoor environments, as people are exposed to harmful air pollutants indoors as well.

Air pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental and public health challenges of the 21st century.
