Sri Lanka, June 2 -- Today marks 38 years since the Aranthalawa Bhikkhu massacre, perpetrated by the LTTE.

On this day in 1987, 31 Buddhist monks, mostly underage novice monks, and four civilians were killed.

The LTTE launched the assault near the Nuwarathenna village, targeting a group of monks who were on a pilgrimage from the Mahavapi Viharaya in Ampara to the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya.
