Sri Lanka, May 15 -- Thirty-eight individuals have been apprehended for engaging in illegal fishing activities during search operations conducted between the 21st and 28th of April.
The Sri Lanka Navy, in collaboration with fisheries inspectors, carried out these operations in the areas of Kadeikadu, Puthumathalan, Trincomalee, Kokilai, Chapel Island, and Back Bay coastal and sea regions.
Authorities seized eight illegal nets, twelve dinghies, and equipment used for light-coarse fishing.
It has been reported that these fishermen were using illegal electric lights and prohibited nets for fishing.
