Sri Lanka, April 30 -- 33 candidates have been arrested since March 3, for violating election laws in the lead-up to the May 6 local government elections, according to the Sri Lanka police.
349 supporters affiliated with various political parties have also been taken into custody.
Meanwhile, police stated that a postal worker in Vavuniya, who had been distributing voting cards through a businessman in the area, has been arrested.
The Vavuniya Police further reported that the owner of the shop was also taken into custody.
