Sri Lanka, May 3 -- The Sri Lanka Professional Principals Association has highlighted a critical shortage of school principals across the island, stating that there are approximately 3,000 principal vacancies islandwide.

According to the association's president, Sugeeshwara Wimalaratne, the Principals' Service Constitution stipulates that the country should currently have 16,512 principals.

However, Wimalaratne pointed out a significant shortfall, noting that only 1,800 principals were recruited from the last examination held in 2019.
