Sri Lanka, Sept. 4 -- The Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 29 fishermen for engaging in illegal fishing practices during an operation conducted over the past two weeks across the country's territorial waters.

According to the Navy, the suspects were using prohibited fishing methods, including the use of illegal nets and explosives.

Along with the arrests, the Navy also seized eight dinghies and one steamboat.

The operation was carried out to prevent the negative impact of these illegal activities on the marine ecosystem and to promote legal fishing.
