Sri Lanka, Oct. 16 -- Professor Miyuru Chandradasa, President of the Sri Lanka College of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, stated that 24% of students in the higher grades of Sri Lankan schools show symptoms of depression.

The Professor also revealed that a study conducted jointly by the University of Kelaniya and Monash University found that 6 out of every 10 children, meaning 60% of children, suffer from some form of psychological distress.

The research confirmed that the pressure of education faced by children, problems with parents and family, increased inclination towards social media and suffering from physical and psychological abuse/distress, has led to this distress.
