Sri Lanka, March 27 -- A survey has revealed that 18 percent of school students in the country suffer from depression, according to Community Health Specialist Dr. Chirantika Vithana, National Program Manager for Adolescent Health at the Family Health Bureau.
Speaking at a seminar held at the Health Promotion Bureau yesterday, Dr. Withana said the survey was conducted among two age groups, 13-14 years and 16-17 years, and found that depression increases with age.
She also noted that suicide, suicidal thoughts, and planning suicide have increased compared to 2016.
