Sri Lanka, Feb. 10 -- Deputy Minister of Industry and Enterprise Development Chathuranga Abeysinghe stated that Sri Lanka's local vehicle assembly industry has undergone a significant transformation in recent years.

During an inspection of three factories, he highlighted that the country now has 17 local vehicle assembly plants and 78 vehicle component manufacturing industries, generating around 20,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The Deputy Minister noted that approximately 60% of the value added in motorcycle assembly is local, while for automobiles, it stands at about 25%.
