Srilanka, Nov. 15 -- Gampola Police report that a 16-year-old schoolgirl was fatally stabbed by a 28-year-old former soldier, who subsequently died by suicide by hanging himself.

The deceased student was identified as Hewage Malki Dilrukshi, a Grade 10 student residing in Millagahamula, Panwilathenna, Gampola.

According to the Police, investigations revealed that the student and the deceased former soldier had been in a relationship.

The police further stated that the former soldier committed the murder allegedly due to suspicion that the girl was involved in a relationship with another person.

Investigations also revealed that the former soldier had been renting a room at the student's residence for about a year.
