Sri Lanka, Feb. 13 -- An 11-year-old schoolboy from Thalpotha, Polonnaruwa, has died after a football goalpost collapsed on him at a school playground.

The victim, Kavindu Denuwan, a Grade 6 student, had accompanied his mother to watch his elder sister's sports match near Polonnaruwa - Topawewa Maha Vidyalaya yesterday evening.

According to the police, Kavindu had joined a group attempting to remove a goalpost when a weakened section of it collapsed on his head. He was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of Polonnaruwa General Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the boy's parents have decided to donate his organs, including his eyes.
