Sri Lanka, April 23 -- A total of 10 million individuals have registered with the Inland Revenue Department to obtain a Taxpayer Identification Number.

However, the Department has revealed that at least 7 million more eligible individuals are yet to register for a TIN.

This information was disclosed during a media briefing organised by the Department of Government Information to announce tax amendments from the 2025 Budget.

The Department urged the public to utilise the online platform available on their website to register and obtain a TIN.

The government, through the 2024 Budget announced in November 2023, has made the Taxpayer Identification Number mandatory for several key transactions.
