Sri Lanka, May 7 -- The Local Government Elections concluded today (07) with the National People's Power (NPP) emerging victorious in 266 out of 339 local government bodies.
The NPP secured 4.5 million votes, electing 3,926 of its candidates to local offices. However, the party fell short of securing majorities in most of the councils.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) claimed 14 local government authorities, garnering 2.26 million votes and electing 1,767 candidates.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) secured 954,517 votes, with 742 of its candidates elected.
