India, June 20 -- What really happens at the bottom of the ocean, in places where no human has ever set foot? That's the question a team from the University of Sydney has been exploring, and their answer involves a lot of technology, a bit of adventure, and a fresh look at what science can do when we let robots lead the way.

Norfolk Island sits quietly in the Tasman Sea, far from the mainland, surrounded by waters that have always kept their secrets. Until now, most of what lies beneath those waves has been a mystery. Human divers can only go so deep, and the risks are high, but robots don't have those limits.
