JODHPUR, May 12 -- The Rajasthan high court has upheld the verdicts of a trial and appellate court, ruling that a divorced woman is entitled to relief under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDV Act), provided the allegations of abuse pertain to the period when she was in a domestic relationship with her husband. The court dismissed a revision petition filed by a man challenging the maintenance awarded by the trial and appellate courts. Justice Manoj Kumar Garg, on Wednesday, affirmed that the decree of divorce does not erase past instances of domestic violence, nor does it take away a woman's right to seek remedies under the PWDV Act.
