Lucknow, April 10 -- A 45-year-old woman in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh had lodged a police complaint last month alleging she was abducted, gang-raped and shot at by some unidentified men. Investigation by the police, however, revealed that the woman had staged the abduction and implanted a bullet on her shoulder with the help of a "quack" in a bid to falsely implicate a politician and his son, police said on Wednesday.

The revelation came days after the state was shocked over the reports of the woman's allegations on March 29, which came out to be a cooked-up story.
