India, Feb. 10 -- A woman was killed and eight others got injured in a stampede that broke out before the Kalash Yatra at the consecration ceremony of the newly built Navgraha Temple in Dabra, Gwalior district, on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Kalawati Batham (60). A woman with serious injuries was referred to Gwalior for treatment.

The incident occurred during the distribution of Kalash (sacred metal pot), when a rush to collect them led to pandemonium.

Gwalior inspector general (IG) Arvind Saxena said, "The organiser opened one of the gates to bring Kalash to the distribution point, but a group of women entered through it. They began pushing each other to get the Kalash, resulting in a stampede."
