War of words between EC, Bengal govt over special roll drive escalates
New Delhi/Kolkata, Nov. 30 -- The tussle between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Election Commission of India (EC) over the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls intensified on Saturday, with West Bengal's ruling party accusing the poll body of spreading "false narratives" about the ongoing exercise, and the EC alleging that the state has not released the enhanced honorarium for booth-level officers (BLOs) despite granting approval.
The escalation came a day after a TMC delegation met the EC top brass and alleged that around 40 SIR-related deaths had occurred in the eastern state, a charge junked by the poll body.
