US launches 175 investigations into potential abuses of H-1B visa prog
WASHINGTON, Nov. 8 -- The US Department of Labour (DOL) has launched at least 175 investigations into potential abuses of the H-1B visa programme, targeting employers suspected of underpaying foreign workers and circumventing protections for American job seekers, Fox News Digital reported on Friday.
The investigations, part of an initiative called Project Firewall, have uncovered more than $15 million in calculated back wages owed to workers, the department told Fox News Digital.
Labour Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer is personally certifying each investigation, a mechanism the department has never used before, according to Fox News Digital.
