Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a sharp increase in funding for the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) to Rs.40,000 crore and unveiled India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0, reinforcing the government's push to build domestic electronics and semiconductor manufacturing capacity.

The ECMS, launched in April 2025 with an initial outlay of Rs.22,919 crore, has already attracted investments of over Rs.1.15 lakh crore - nearly double the government's initial target of Rs.59,350 crore - across 249 applications, information technology minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said previously. The schemes are under the ministry of electronics and IT.
