In what turned out to be a batting contest between two captains, England's Thomas Rew (110 - 107b, 14x4, 1x6) took his team to 277/7 after electing to bat. Australia's Oliver Peake responded with a valiant 100, battling severe cramp towards the end before he was the last man out, but failed to find enough support. Rew rallied England from 60/3 with a 135-run fourth wicket stand with Caleb Falconer (40).
