Lucknow, July 29 -- Two people, including a 16-year-old boy, died and 29 were injured in a stampede that broke out near Ausaneshwar temple in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh early on Monday, officials aware of the matter said. The stampede was triggered at the temple gallery leading to the main temple room around 2.30am after a monkey tugged at a live wire, causing it to fall on a tin shed, creating panic among devotees who had gathered to perform jalabhishek (a ritual), officials added.
