Trump to make a visit to China
India, Jan. 1 -- 2025 ended with the US-China relationship finally on somewhat firmer ground.
The first months of that year saw escalating tensions over tariffs, with the Donald Trump administration announcing a staggering 145% tariff, at its peak, on Chinese goods. Beijing matched Trump's tariffs and unveiled export restrictions on rare earth elements, which could have had severe consequences for the US economy.
A May meeting in Geneva helped contain tensions, and the two superpowers finally reached a framework agreement in October, on tariffs, export controls, agricultural purchases (and TikTok).
