India, Aug. 6 -- After days of threatening extra levies on India over the country's purchase of Russian oil, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday imposed an additional 25 per cent tariff on New Delhi, taking the total duty on Indian goods to 50 per cent.

On July 30, Trump announced that India would pay a 25 per cent tariff from August 1, plus an additional penalty for its oil and military purchases from Russia.

He alleged that India's purchase from Russia was "fueling the war machine".
