LUCKNOW, Nov. 21 -- A total of 133 private vehicles were fined and 69 detained at police stations during an enforcement drive by the transport department against unauthorised commercial operations, officials said. The checks are part of a five-day drive launched at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on Monday to curb the misuse of private vehicles as commercial taxis.
The action follows a Uttar Pradesh government directive issued after a Deloitte presentation during a review meeting on achieving the state's USD 1-trillion economy target. The presentation highlighted that many air passengers were travelling in private vehicles being illegally used as commercial taxis.
