New Delhi, Nov. 21 -- The Rajya Sabha took up the Transgender (Protection of Rights) Bill 2019 for discussion on Wednesday, with several members asking that the bill, which was passed by the Lok Sabha on August 5, be sent to a select panel. Union minister Thaawarchand Gehlot moved the bill, formulated to protect the rights of transgender persons and their welfare, in the RS on Wednesday. Discussions on the bill will continue on Thursday. BJP MP Anil Agarwal, however, said that the passage of the bill should not be delayed, as members of the community were awaiting justice. Shanta Chhetri of the All India TMC said the bill was silent on the rights of the transgender persons to marry, adoptchildrenand inherit property, and called for further deliberations on the bill....
