Train from Delhi to Kashmir makes debut trip with troops
Jammu, May 15 -- A special train travelled from Delhi to Qazigund via Katra and carried Indian Army soldiers, railway and defence officials confirmed on Wednesday, marking the first full journey since the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL).
The train carrying between 800 and 1,000 soldiers started from Delhi on Tuesday and made a halt in Katra, said the officials cited above. At Katra, the soldiers boarded a different 14-coach train with a double engine that ferried them to Qazigund on Wednesday, the officials added.
Qazigund is 73km from Srinagar and is the main rail head near the Jammu & Kashmir capital.
