Silchar, Nov. 24 -- A senior leader of the banned insurgent group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), Arunodoi Axom - real name Bijit Gogoi - surrendered before security forces along the Indo-Myanmar border on Sunday. Axom, a close associate of ULFA(I) chief Paresh Baruah and a self-styled 'major general' of the outfit, laid down arms along with his personal security officer, Francis Axom, at Pangsau Pass, security officials said. A police team is bringing him to Assam, where he will be questioned on the organisation's network, cadre strength, funding channels and cross-border movement routes.
