India, Dec. 31 -- India's decades-long Naxal insurgency suffered crippling blows in 2025 as security forces neutralised top Maoist leadership, with dozens of others surrendering. Around 270 Maoists were killed in 2025, including senior leaders Basavaraju, Madvi Hidma, Kosa and Katta Ramchandra Reddy. A large number of cadres also laid down their arms and returned to the constitutional mainstream. A total of 1,552 Maoist cadres surrendered from January 1 to December 15, including top leaders Rupesh, Ranita and Chaitu. Union home minister Amit Shah has announced that Maoism will be completely eliminated from the country by March 31, 2026, with Bastar identified as the most critical theatre in this final phase.
