Kolkata, April 6 -- Political tensions gripped West Bengal on Saturday over Ram Navami celebrations in the state, with the BJP urging the state government to ensure peaceful celebrations while the ruling Trinamool Congress accused the opposition party of "politicising" the event to foment unrest.

On the eve of Ram Navami celebrations in the state, police increased security measures across the state as several religious rallies are expected to take place on Sunday. An additional 5,000 police personnel are likely to be deployed in Kolkata, city police commissioner Manoj Verma said.
