Dharamshala, March 25 -- Phuntsok Tobgyal, UN Advocacy Officer at the Office of Tibet in Geneva, has raised serious concerns about the environmental and social impacts of China's proposed Metok Dam, warning that the project poses significant threats to the region's delicate ecosystem, water security, and regional stability.

Speaking at the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Tobgyal said that dam's construction could lead to deforestation, increased seismic activity and disturbances to glacier melt patterns, all of which may contribute to accelerating climate change.
