New Delhi, July 3 -- Tibetan Buddhism's two most revered figures are the Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lama. The origins of both titles lie in the complex theology of Tibetan Buddhism. In 1995, the Dharamshala-based Dalai Lama recognised six-year-old Gedhun Choekyi Nyima as the 11th Panchen Lama. China rejected the nomination and Nyima and his family disappeared soon after from their home in the Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) and have never been seen in public since then. In 2015, Norbu Dunzhub, a member of the TAR's United Front Work, said Nyima was a college graduate and living a normal life.
