India, March 27 -- The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Thursday adopted a unanimous resolution asserting that population should not be the sole yardstick for the delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies.
Moving the resolution in the state assembly, chief minister A Revanth Reddy said if the proposed delimitation exercise is carried out on population basis, there is a possibility of the representation of southern states in Lok Sabha seats falling from 24 per cent to 19 per cent.
"The southern states implemented family planning strictly and they will be at the receiving end if the delimitation is done on a population basis," he said.
