Kolkata, Sept. 22 -- West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday strongly criticised the Narendra Modi-led Union government on the new GST reforms, saying the tax changes will reduce the state's revenue by Rs.20,000 crore.
Though Banerjee noted that the lowered tax slab rates will help citizens, the chief minister slammed the Prime Minister for taking credit for the rationalisation, saying the state had suggested the same.
"We are losing Rs.20,000 crore as revenue, but we are happy about the lowering of GST. But why are you (Modi) claiming credit for it? We had sought a lowered GST. It was our suggestion at the GST Council meeting," she said in Kolkata.
