New Delhi, July 1 -- A lawyer has urged the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance of the gang rape of a 24-year-old student at a government-run law college in Kolkata, and order a court-monitored probe into the incident by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The petition, filed by lawyer Satyam Singh on Monday, also demanded action against leaders from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) for alleged victim-shaming and sought an inquiry into institutional lapses, besides providing monetary compensation to the survivor and protection to her family.
