India, July 9 -- Officially known as NB.1.8.1 and nicknamed 'Nimbus', a new Covid-19 variant is now the dominant one in the United States. Detected in several US states back in June, the strain is now the most common in the country, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDS is monitoring the spread of his virus through an airport screening program, wherein nasal and wastewater samples are being collected.
