India, Oct. 13 -- The Supreme Court on Monday ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)-led probe into the Karur stampede in Tamil Nadu, where at least forty people were killed during a stampede at actor-politician Vijay's rally on September 27.
The bench, led by Justices JK Maheshwari and NV Anjaria, directed the setting up of a three-member committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi to monitor the investigation.
"The issues have a bearing on the fundamental rights of the citizens, and the incident which has shaken the national conscience, deserves a fair and impartial investigation," the bench was quoted as saying by LiveLaw.
