GUWAHATI, Dec. 1 -- Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that a report on granting scheduled tribe (ST) status to six communities would in no way hurt the interests of those communities already included in the category.
The report was tabled in the state assembly on Saturday.
"It seems the report has not been studied properly by some leading to some comments opposing it. The cabinet believes that suggestions made in the report will pave the way for granting ST status to six new communities while ensuring that the interests of the existing ST communities are hurt one bit," Sarma said after a cabinet meeting on Sunday.
