New Delhi, April 10 -- The Samajwadi Party has moved the Supreme Court against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, amid an ongoing row over the controversial law, which came into force on Tuesday.

SP lawmaker from Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal, Zia Ur Rehman Barq, filed a writ petition which said, "Act discriminates against the Muslim community by introducing restrictions that are not applicable to the governance of other religious endowments."

"We have always protested against the Waqf Amendment Bill. Now, when the bill has been passed by both the houses, and it has become a law, then we were not left with much options. Hence, we decided to approach the Supreme Court," Barq said. "This new law is a direct attack on Muslims and the Indian Constitution......
