Kolkata, Feb. 6 -- The West Bengal government on Thursday unveiled an interim budget focused on the assembly elections, augmenting the Lakshmir Bhandar allowance for women by Rs.500 and launching a Rs.1,500 monthly stipend for the unemployed.
Amit Mitra, the government's chief adviser on financial matters, called it a "record hike" that signalled a major expansion in the state's economy.
The opposition BJP called it "false and legally impossible to implement".P8
