India, July 26 -- A controversy has erupted over alleged vioation of Sikh 'maryada' (religious code of conduct) after a song-and-dance video went viral from a Punjab government function to mark the matyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

Punjab education minister on Saturday issued an apology and "humbly submitted" himself for a hearing scheduled by the Akal Takht, the supreme temporal body of the Sikhs.

His apology post on X came after the temporal authority summoned both Bains and the director of the state language department, Jaswant Singh Zafar, to appear before the five Singh Sahiban (Sikh clergy) on August 1 at Akal Takht Sahib to present their clarifications.
